Sunset Cliffs Wedding
Wanna have a Seaside Wedding at Sunset Cliffs, San Diego?
I recommend it 100% but there are a few things to keep in mind, so let’s get started.
Sunset Cliffs is one of the spots I had been wanting to shoot for the longest time and to say I am excited to show you the photos of this beautiful Styled Elopement is an understatement.
No matter if it’s sunny, cloudy, rainy, etc, this spot always looks SO EPIC.
Anyway, what are the things you should keep in mind?
1. PERMITS:
Some sessions DO NOT require a permit, but it is your responsibility (and your photographer’s) to check and see if you need a permit for your event.
That many times depends on amount of people, place, what props you’re bringing, etc.
HERE you can find the procedures and fees to take take photos.
If after reading that info you still aren’t sure whether you should have a permit or not, call to make sure nothing will interrupt your wedding by getting kicked out.
2. SAFETY:
Although this one sounds kinda obvious, you’ll be on a cliff and if you get excited like I do and like to move a ton, you better watch out.
PLEASE bring shoes that don’t slip easily or do what I recommend anyone do on this type of surface: GO BAREFOOT! It is way easier to walk that way.
And no, do not get super close to the edge. Believe me, angles can make it look like you’re super close, so there’s no need to risk it.
Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
3. PLANNING:
Sunset Cliffs is a a very popular spot for tourists so I recommend to plan your wedding or session preferably on a week day, consider a sunrise session if you can only do weekends, ORRR if it’s going to be a weekend and at sunset time, just make sure you arrive a little earlier to find parking. Get ready to wait a little bit and take turns with other people trying to get photos as well.
I highly suggest to have a wedding planner to help you bring your dream wedding to reality and spend your wedding day worry free.
4. EMBRACE THE WEATHER:
Every time I’ve been to Sunset Cliffs, it’s been extremely different, but I highly suggest embracing the weather instead of cancelling your session or postponing it (unless it is crazy rainy and dangerous, but some clouds never hurt anyone).
A sunny, cloudy, cold, or windy day at this place is just perfect. My favorite is definitely when it’s sunny and windy together that movement in photos.
Bring a sweater since most spots close to the ocean in San Diego get chilly after sundown.
5. LEAVE THE SPOT AS YOU FOUND IT OR EVEN BETTER.
Sadly, many spots in nature that are as popular as this, are closing or limiting people per day because of our behavior. If you want to keep these kind of spots open to take photos or just enjoy, please leave no trace.
Pick up any trash you see around you, do not carve your name on the rocks, and don’t pick flowers or mess with nature.
I mention all this because those are the most common things I’ve seen people doing in the area and it breaks my heart to think that some day this spot could get shut down if we do not help out a little to keep it nice.
That’s it for now! Let me know what you think, and go check out the amazing vendors that were a part of this shoot.
